CATHERINE L. "KITTY" SCHMID, 91, of TINTON FALLS, died Saturday, April 26, at Renaissance Gardens, Seabrook Village. She was employed as an elementary school teacher in Neptune, retiring in 1971. Previously, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Minnesota. She graduated from Kean University. She was a communicant at Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church, Neptune, and was a member and former officer of the Altar Rosary Society there. She was a volunteer at the Jersey Shore Medical Center and former president of the James F. Ackerman Federation. She was a charter member, former officer and regent of Court St. Elizabeth 1486 Avon, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who always looked first to take care of other's needs. Born in Heron Lake, Minn., she lived in Shark River Hills, Neptune, for almost 60 years prior to moving to Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, four years ago.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Russell F. "Rusty" Schmid; two daughters and a son-in law, Mary M. Schmid of Neptune, and Catherine A. and Barry Nestor of Washington, D.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Ann Schmid of West Nyack, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, John Schmid of Boston, Jennifer Schmid and Christopher Schmid, both of West Nyack, Michael Schmid of New York City, Lisa Lagatol of Paramus, and Kevin and Brian Nestor of Washington, D.C.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the last survivor of her 11 siblings.
As she requested, her body was donated to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, for medical research. A memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined. Memorial donations may be made in her name to a charity of the donor's choice.
