  1. Sylvester John Sullivan     b: 08/13/1909 in Heron Lake, Mn     d: 03/19/1997 in Heron Lake, Mn


         Sylvester John Sullivan, son of Jerry and Mamie (Beaton) Sullivan, was born on August 13, 1909 on his parents farm in La Crosse Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. Sylvester grew up on the family farm and graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1928. Following his education Sylvester helped on the family farm. Sylvester married Delphine Stone on August 30, 1941 at Staples, Minnesota. Following their mariage the couple farmed in La Crosse Township. Due to health reasons he retired in 1962 and worked for Toro Company in Windom. Following retirement the couple lived in Heron Lake. He entered the Lakeview Nursing Home in Heron Lake on July 8, 1994 and had resided there since. Sylvester was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. He was also an adult 4-H leader for the La Crosse Lloyal Workers and a member of the Heron Lake School Board. Sylvester passed away on Wednesday morning March 19, 1997 at the Windom Area Hospital. He was 87 years of age. Sylvester is survived by his wife Delphine of Heron Lake; two sons John of Brooklyn Park and Neil and his wife Jenny of Marshall; three daughters Nancy Aquilera of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Jeanette and her husband Gregg Shadduck of Minneapolis and Peggy and her husband Wayne Krefting of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren Pat, Mike, Erika, Maddy, Ryan, Sarah and Erin; one brother Don Sullivan of Heron Lake and one sister Catherine Schmidt of Nep-tune, New Jersey. Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.

         Delphine Leola Stone Sullivan, daughter of Charles and Claudia (Wood) Stone, was born on May 15, 1916 at her parents' home in Poplar, Minnesota. Del grew up in the family home and graduated from high school in Staples, Minnesota. She attended Normal Training School in Staples for one year. Following her education, Del moved to La Crosse Township, Jackson County where she taught country school and kept house for her brothers. Del married Sylvester Sullivan on August 30, 1941 at Staples, Minnesota. Following their marriage, Del and Sylvester lived and farmed in La Crosse Township, Jackson County. In 1960, when the children were of school age, Del returned to teaching. She taught 4th grade for two years at Sacred Heart Parochial School in Heron Lake and later 4th grade at Okabena Public School. She received her B.S. Degree from Mankato State College in 1969. In 1991, Del and Sylvester moved into Heron Lake. Sylvester passed away on March 19, 1997. Del continued to live in her home until entering the Lakeview Nursing Home. Del was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake and was active within the church. She did volunteer work for Lakeview Nursing Home and the Heron Lake Library. Del enjoyed reading,cooking, crocheting, gardening and doing cross-word puzzles. Del passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Lakeview Nursing Home in Heron Lake. She was 86 years, 11 months and 2 days old. Del is survived by two sons John of Brooklyn Park and Neil and his wife Jenny Sullivan of Marshall; three daughters Nancy Aquilera of Bullhead City, Arizona, Jeanette and her husband Gregg Shadduck of Minneapolis and Peggy and her husband Wayne Krefting of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren Pat, Mike, Erika, Maddy, Ryan, Sarah and Erin and one brother Neil and his wife Fran Stone of Danville, California. Del was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two bothers Clarence and Gordon, and one sister Helen.
